Léa Linster – A Culinary Trailblazer in Haute Cuisine

Léa Linster, a Luxembourgish culinary icon, has left an indelible mark on the global gastronomic scene. As the first and only woman to win the prestigious Bocuse d’Or in 1989, she set a historic precedent in a traditionally male-dominated industry. 

Restaurant Léa Linster in Frisange, Luxembourg is currently run by her son Louis Linster. It is known for exquisite dishes, modern French kitchen and warm hospitality. Passion for perfection, charm, dedication and culinary vision are passed on in the family already in six generations. The generational change and maintaining these inherited success factors were recognized in 2025 and Louis Linster was awarded with two prestigious Michelin ** stars. 

From Law to Ladles – The Journey of a Michelin Star Cuisinièr

A determination to succeed; boundless energy and warm hospitality have carried on with her to the day in everything she does. In 1981, she suspended her law studies to take over her parents’ café-restaurant, transforming it into a gourmet restaurant in 1982. In 1987, she became the first Luxembourg woman to obtain her Master’s Certificate in Culinary Arts and earned her first Michelin star. Two years later, she won the Bocuse d’Or, inspired by great chefs such as Paul Bocuse, Frédy Girardet, Pierre Troisgros, and Joël Robuchon. 

Throughout her career, Léa Linster has received numerous accolades and honorary memberships. She has also been awarded for her cookbooks, participated as a jury in ‘The Taste’ show. 

In 2011, she opened Boutique Delicatessen Léa Linster near the Grand Ducal Palace. According to the Grand Duke’s mother and numerous visitors, you can enjoy ‘the best madeleines in the world’ in this cozy café.
